When it comes down to it, budgeting can feel so hard! Especially if you are living paycheck to paycheck and can’t seem to break the cycle. But there is one sure-fire way to get money back with a tiny amount of effort, and that is by meal-planning.
Yes, meal planning. For most people, food is a huge chunk of their budget. If you happen to be one of them, then I have good news. Unlike your other bills, you can control the cost of your groceries. There are a million ways to save while shopping, but the real secret to saving money on groceries starts before you ever leave your home!
“Easy? Ha!” I know. The traditional method

Meal Planning Ideas
To be honest, I spent years trying to get into a good meal planning routine. I’m not crazy about cooking, which makes meal planning a total drag. But it was always a necessary evil.
As cute as they are, my family is super picky. I had finally built a nice collection of recipes that everyone liked. Then, a while back my husband was put on a special diet called the Low Fod-Map.
To support him in every way possible, and attempt to make my life easier overall, the main meals all need to follow the diet now. However, making that choice cut out most of my easy family-approved, budget-friendly fall-backs.
Now, I’m sure you know this, but when kids are hungry, they are mean. And they cry a lot. And whine a lot. I found myself cooking several meals a day from scratch, spending way too much time doing the dishes, and researching recipes that we could eat. And don’t even get me started about Chris and cutting out bread. Needless to say, we were all miserable.
I knew that I had to get some help somehow. I started looking into meal planning services. Maybe there was a service that could help us stick to the new dinner routine.
After trying a few different companies, I found MyFreezEasy. It was a perfect match, and nothing like I had tried before. I was sold.
MyFreezEasy Saves Money
From a frugal point of view, this system seemed too good to be true. Each meal is supposed to cost about $5 a piece. I double checked this when I went shopping, and it was accurate! I was pleasantly surprised. (Still be sure to use these grocery shopping tips to get the most bang for your buck.)
Not only that, but I am a huge believer in stockpiling staple ingredients, so I hardly ever buy anything that isn’t on sale. Going against this with the other meal planning services was literally painful for me. With MyFreezEasy, all of the ingredients for the monthly meal plan are in-season.
They even have meal plan collections that you can use for sale items. So, for example, if chicken is on sale at the store, you can download a meal plan that uses only chicken. I’m telling you this thing is made for budget-minded people. It doesn’t get easier than that.
At $5 a meal, you are looking at spending around $150 per month on dinner. It’s only $12 a month to join MyFreezEasy. (That is literally less than a quick trip through McDonald’s drive-through for my family!) What could you do with that kind of extra money per month?

When I first tried
I am happy to report that
We went from forcing my kids to take three more bites, to happily chatting about our days at dinner time. That alone is worth the $12 monthly fee!
MyFreezEasy Is Customizable
In the past, I have tried meal planning books and services that would hand over instructions with no way to choose the meals. This DID NOT work for my family at all! They are picky. Like we don’t eat soup picky. It’s ridiculous.
With MyFreezEasy’s Premium membership, I can literally drag and drop my chosen recipes into a box, click a button, and I suddenly have a shopping list, step by step instructions for prepping, and more at my fingertips. And it’s only $12/month!
A custom meal-plan in minutes? It’s a dream come true.
Of course, you can also opt for the basic membership if you are blessed with a non-picky family. It’s even cheaper, and less work. Win-win for you I’d say.
MyFreezEasy Makes Meal Pl
Every month, the team at MyFreezEasy makes a new meal plan as well. If you are blessed with a not-picky family, you could literally print out a monthly meal plan and be out the door in two minutes. It would include everything you would need from planning to the freezer.
Honestly, you don’t even have to print it out. You could be walking through the store and realize that you need to meal plan, open their app, and get started right then.
However, this is very unlikely to happen because the entire concept of

Not having to worry about dinnertime is an amazing feeling! It is absolute bliss these days, and I owe that to this amazing system. This picture was taken after a single prep day that took me less than two hours.
I am telling you that this is one service that you will not regret spending your money on. I highly recommend at least trying it for a month to get all of the features, but if you are skeptical, you can also check out Erin’s free workshop and get a meal plan absolutely free. Join the workshop!

So What’s Holding You Back?
I don’t have a big freezer, so freezer cooking won’t work for me.
Bologne! This system will work for anyone. Many of the meals are put into Ziploc bags. Freeze them flat and you can store a bunch of these meals in any freezer. If you can fit a box of corndogs and some Eggos in your freezer, you can use this system. Don’t take it from me, check out the videos in Erin’s free workshop!
I suck at cooking, and freezer cooking feels so intimidating.
Let me tell you, if you are ever going to give cooking a chance, this is the easiest way to do it. The MyFreezEasy recipes that I have made are so easy that my four-year-old and seven-year-old have assembled a few without my help.
There is even a dump recipes collection where the only prep is to dump ingredients into a bag. I promise you can totally handle this. The workshop also includes a few trial recipes if you are still skeptical.

How can I possibly carve out time to freezer cook? I am already struggling to keep up.
Before I started freezer cooking with the MyFreezEasy style, this was definitely the case for me. I had tried batch cooking and ended up with a week’s worth of meals after a full day in the kitchen. Plus I had to figure out somewhere for my kids to go or I would totally fall apart. Can you say “Not worth it.”?
Well, now I have my own shopping routine(hint: it includes Walmart Grocery Pick-up and a play-date at Chick-Fil-A) that has made the prep day process a quick and fun afternoon affair. The kids help me shop and put the meals together so we don’t have to make any special arrangements or hire a babysitter.
On top of that, I am only doing a prep day every two weeks. I spend about five minutes in the kitchen every night to throw everything where it needs to go. In cooking alone, I am saving about seven hours a week.
Then you have to consider the number of dishes I am avoiding! On prep day, my dishes mountain was about what I would get from a normal night of cooking.
Now, all I have to wash is our plates and cups each
All things considered, I am saving at least twenty hours per month on cooking dinner,
Apparently, I’m not alone when it comes to saving time. According to Erin, using this method will save most people 10 hours a week and that is if you are just running to grab something quick from the store every night.
We are on a special diet. My family is picky, and I don’t know which recipes I would choose. That feels overwhelming to me.
One of the reasons that I love
They even create separate meal plans for specialty diets like Keto, Clean Eating, and Gluten-Free along with good old fashioned Traditional ones. There is something for everyone.
All of the chopping and cutting sounds like torture. I’m not sure I can hack it.
Did I tell you that I don’t like cooking already? Yeah? Well, I meant it.
One of my favorite ways to cut back on prep time is to buy the veggies frozen. (I spy a bag in the freezer…) They are just as healthy, and they are already cut up. Sometimes they are even more cost-effective. Even if they cost a few pennies more per ounce it will be worth using them to save time and make everything feel easier. I mean, that is the whole point, right?
Also, Erin is basically the master. I have yet to run across a recipe that requires me to cut
Can you handle slicing a few (insert veggie from
I’m not sure how to freeze and unfreeze food. Is this actually safe?
MyFreezEasy meals are literally designed to be frozen. If you have ever eaten a frozen convenience meal before, then it is no different. Well, I mean…it is homemade, way healthier, and more affordable.
If this is something you are worried about, I highly recommend going through Erin’s free online workshop that will teach you all about freezing, thawing, and prepping your way to homemade convenience food safely.
